Your 2021 social media editorial plan: as a free downloadable template

Here, you can find our free template for creating a social media editorial plan for 2021. An editorial plan must primarily have the following three qualities:

  • You should be able to adapt it to your social media strategy.
  • You should be able to flexibly expand it and narrow it down to the aspects that are important to you.
  • It should be self-explanatory and easy to use for all employees.

Since the previous year’s template was so popular, we decided to create a social media editorial plan template again as an Excel file for 2021. The template provides a framework that you can tailor to your company’s specific needs, individual social media strategy, and social media budget in just a few clicks.

The listed theme days and events, the choice of social media channels, and the suggested structure and layout are intended to provide you with inspiration for planning and structuring your brand communication more effectively on the social web. The plan is just the tool you need to be better prepared and pursue your social media strategy in a more targeted way. So what are you waiting for? Download this free Excel template for your 2021 social media editorial plan and start planning for next year.

Our “2021 social media editorial plan” Excel template contains the following elements:

  • The “Calendar” section is arranged by month, calendar week, date, and day of the week.
  • It contains all the main public holidays as well as lots of theme and action days. The plan also specifically includes big events that have been scheduled for 2021. Use them as inspiration for choosing your topics!
  • In the “Content planning” section, you can name your topics and match them to campaigns. You can also add notes, links, and relevant keywords.
  • In the “Responsibility” section, you can designate the members of your team who will work on a certain topic and seed the content. Deadlines can be defined and the current progress status is visible.
  • In the “Posts for social media channels” section, you’ll find a preselection of 13 popular social media channels. If needed, you can easily add other channels or delete the ones you don’t use because they are not relevant to your strategy.
  • Each column lets you prepare and schedule the content specifically for your target group on every channel and day of the year.
  • The separate “Idea pool” sheet gives you and your team space to collect ideas for topics and specific content for future posts or campaigns in a central location so that they can be tweaked and subsequently worked on.
